Essential operating instructions, building protocols, and guest amenities for your stay at Lily Terrace.
Vicolo del Giglio, 2a
Roma, RM 00186
The closest most cabs can reach is Piazza Farnese.
Street numbers count upward on each side of the street independently, and do not use odd and even addresses to distinguish opposite sides of the street. The 2A door is between the doors to Vicolo del Giglio 2 and 3 (Idraulico Valentini).
Building Door: Insert the long, round-back "CISA" key into the lower key hole with teeth up, turn clockwise a quarter turn, then push the door open.
Once inside, press any button that has a little dot of light on it to illuminate the stairwell.
Apartment Door: At the top of the stairs, open the door on the left (unlocked), and follow the veranda to the green shutter door, which is also unlocked. The small round-back key opens the door to the apartment.
All doors lock automatically when closed.
Turn off the A/C and all lights.
Ensure that the oven and stove tops are off.
Ensure that the projector and PS5 are completely off.
Ensure all windows and doors are closed.
Take all perishable food with you.
Take out the trash.
Clean and put away the dishes.
Leave any dirty sheets, pillowcases, and towels in the laundry hamper.
Leave the keys in the key bowl in the living room.
Cabinet by the door: shopping bags, paper towels, shelf-stable foods.
Cabinet above the bathtub: toilet paper, sunscreen, soap, toothbrushes, first aid kit.
Living room cubbies: plugs, charging cables, fans, speaker, hats, towels, sheets, board games, office supplies.
Front kitchen door: do not put your fingers in the door hinge. Don't leave the cabinet to the left of the refrigerator open.
Door from the living room to the bathroom: turn the handle completely when opening and closing the door.
Bedroom door: use light when going down the stairs (there are light switches both upstairs and downstairs).
Door from the veranda to the living room: this door can be hard to see when it’s open if the curtains are down. Careful not to walk into it.
Please turn the a/c off when leaving the apartment.
The upstairs bedroom a/c should only be needed when in use (the small room cools fast).
Please keep windows closed during summer when the a/c is running.
Use the floor fan to direct cool air from the living room into the sleeping alcove.
Equipped with induction cooktop, compact dishwasher, small oven.
Plates, bowls, and glasses are in the cabinet above the sink. Silverware is in the cabinet to the left of the refrigerator.
Please throw out all perishable food when you depart. Do not try to bring perishable food into the US.
Operating the in-unit washer:
The “cotton” setting (60 degrees centigrade) is not recommended for anything other than towels and sheets.
There are two laundromats less than a block from the apartment. Their machines do not require detergent. 20 minutes is enough time to dry most loads, but 30 minutes is usually required for thick towels and jeans.
If the hot water isn’t working, the most likely culprit is the gas apparatus, which can be found in the veranda against the kitchen wall.
If the pressure Gauge indicates that it is lower than 1, gently unscrew the Knob below and to the left of it, which should cause the pressure gauge to rise. Once the pressure sits between 1 and 2, screw the Knob back to its off position. Then try the hot water again.
If it still doesn’t work, call Dash.
Separated collection per Rome regulations:
Nearest sorted trash bins: Located at Via della Pietà, 15.
Sorted trash bins can also be found in Campo de Fiori in the late afternoon, just in front of Drunken Ship.
Leave bagged trash around the corner on Vicolo delle Grotte next to the flamingo graffiti. Monday - Paper, Tuesday - Plastic, Wednesday - Mixed, Thursday - Paper, Friday - Plastic
Do not trust online information (e.g. Google Maps) for post office locations and hours. The closest post office to the condo should be at Piazza Benedetto Cairoli, but it may be permanently closed. The one at Piazza San Silvestro is the closest post office that should be guaranteed to be open from at least 8 am until 12:30 pm, Monday through Saturday. Waits can be long, so arrive early.
Sending mail from the mail slot on the building and receiving mail at Vicolo del Giglio are unreliable.
Barnum is the closest place to the condo to get American-style coffee and French pastries. You can skip the line of people outside by ordering at the bar to go.
Sant'Eustachio is best close option for high quality Roman coffee.
You won't always see it on menus, but you can order a "caffè freddo con latte" anywhere if you're looking for an American-style iced coffee (made with espresso).
The apartment does not have Internet yet.
I recommend Vodafone, TIM, or Wind Tre for mobile service.
There are a number of games on the PS5.
The projector gets moved around during cleaning and likely needs to be realigned when you arrive. The projector does not fit the frame perfectly, but it should be easy to center it such that it bows only slightly at the top and only a small trim exceeds the two edges
Turning The Projector Off: Hold the power button down for two seconds and then select shutdown. If you just click the power button once it goes into sleep mode and the “formovie” light stays illuminated.
Do not climb onto the roof from the terrace or from the living room window.
Do not slam the front door or the apartment doors.
Do not have more than four people on the terrace at one time.
Do not be loud on the terrace.
Keep the projector volume below 25.
Please use sheets when sleeping on the sofa bed.
The terrace light and retractable awning are controlled by the same light switch. Switching the terrace light off and on again changes its brightness setting.
Do not attempt to move the retractable awning manually. Please use the remote control (terrace light must be on).
Whoever sits next to the terrace faucet needs to look out to make sure they don’t accidentally injure themselves on the faucet.
Please keep noise on the terrace to a minimum.
Maximum occupancy on the terrace is four people.
Informal / Formal:
Don’t cut your pasta.
Don’t talk loudly.
Don’t mix pasta sauces.
Don't order cappuccino past noon.
Don’t go to fancy places underdressed.
Stay hydrated.
The Caravaggio walking tour is excellent.
Skip the Vatican organized tour. They miss many parts of the museum and waste a lot of time explaining stuff you’ll already know (Trojan horse, head of Medusa).
The Palazzo Farnese tour is a must if you can find availability.
The Galleria Doria Pamphilj and Palazzo Barberini are excellent and never crowded. They're a great last minute alternative to the Galleria Borghese.
Every church is a museum. Don't miss San Luigi dei Francesi (Caravaggio), Santa Maria del Popolo (Caravaggio and Bernini), and San Pietro in Vincoli (Michelangelo). Note: Everyone's shoulders and knees need to be covered to visit the churches.
Best Italian ham: Crudo di Bassiano Gran Riserva.
An “etto” is 100 grams, and is enough for 4 people to sample it.
If you ask for a "piatto degustazione" they will slice the meats and cheeses up for you and package them together.
You can explain that you want 10 or 20 euros worth of cheese overall and they can figure out the right portions to give you.
Antica Ruggeri is the closest and they have an enormous selection. I’m a big fan of DA ROMA azienda agricola, over by Piazza Navona. For high end charcuterie (French cheeses and Spanish ham), go to Roscioli Salumeria.
The condo is entirely free for you to use. But if you insist on covering expenses, it costs €70 to have the apartment cleaned, and utilities for the apartment cost roughly €10 a day.
